Finding A Perfect Dining Room Set
Today I was on a quest for a black dining room set to put in my new dining room. I had painted, bought a Persian rug and I was not going home without a table and six chairs.
My best friend Jeanne was a wonderful amateur interior decorator. She had advised me on how to plan a room in the past. I helped her do some painting and shopping. Her bedroom was gorgeous, done in shades of burnt orange. It was contemporary and had large flowers on the quilt set. On the walls, she hung framed pictures of orange flowers and had pale orange curtains.
We looked at every dining room set in the first store. None seemed exactly what I wanted. There were only a few sets in black. The saleslady told us some of the light oak sets were also made in black wood. We considered all the possibilities.
We saw one with cushions on the chairs. I liked it but it was too hard to think how it would look in black. We left for another furniture store. They were having a great sale today. We went to the parking lot and drove over. We talked over my plans.
We went through details like paint colors and textures. Curtains versus drapes were the next topic. I preferred the sheer panels and liked them to have tab tops. The green Persian rug would be perfect underneath my table. A light bulb moment came to me. I wanted one of the round sets.
A salesman approached Jeanne and I as we entered the store. I told him we were searching for one of the round dining sets that were on a pedestal. I want it in black wood I told him. He took us over to where the sets were displayed. There were quite a few to look at.
He explained the wood types and matte finish versus shiny finish. Price was important too, but not overly limiting. I wanted to know about special sale prices. He said we could work out a discount if the black set cost over a certain amount. I told him I wasn’t basing my decision solely on price. Then I spotted the perfect one out of all the round dining room sets. It had a round pedestal table and six chairs.
The friendly salesman filled out the order and I signed. We all walked up to the front desk to pay. I got out my credit card. We agreed on a delivery date and I agreed to next Friday.
I turned to him and jokingly said I hoped I could still afford an electric rice cooker since I had dropped and broken mine. He smiled and handed me a card and asked if he could help with anything else. I said I would ask for him the next time I shopped there. We said goodbye and Jeanne and I walked out to the car.
